Scott Brown Staffers Do ‘Tomahawk Chop’ at Rally

Sen. Scott Brown’s campaign staffers were caught on video that is now playing on YouTube making Native American “war whoops” and doing “tomahawk chops” at a Brown campaign rally.

The recording was made Saturday near the Eire Pub in Boston during a rally for the Republican’s reelection bid.

The chants and motions are a reference to the controversy surrounding Elizabeth Warren’s self-identification as Native American, which has been a topic of a lot of discussion in the Massachusetts Senate race. Warren is Brown’s Democratic challenger.

The Brown campaign staffers shown in the video are Brown’s Deputy Chief of Staff Greg Casey, GOP Operative Brad Garnett, and Constituent Service Counsel Jack Richard, Boston’s WCVB reported. WCVB later reported that two more Brown staffers– State Director Jerry McDermott and Special Assistant Jennifer Franks were also shown in the video.

On Tuesday, Brown told reporters “I haven’t seen it. This is the first I’m hearing of it…  I don’t know what you’re specifically referring to.”

He added, however, “Certainly that’s not something I condone. It’s certainly something that if I am aware of it, I’ll tell that member to never do it again.”

The video was posted by Blue Mass Group, a progressive blog focusing on Massachusetts politics, and it comes on the heels of a newly released ad from the Brown campaign revisiting the controversy over Warren’s Native American claims which first surfaced in the spring.

The video also comes at a time when the Warren campaign is facing questions regarding her past legal work. News surfaced on Tuesday that Warren had represented a coal mining company in a bankruptcy case.

In a statement to ABC News the Massachusetts Democratic party called the behavior in the video “inappropriate.”

“Scott Brown’s campaign is flailing and in trouble, and this is yet another sign of that. Scott Brown and his staff are launching outrageous and offensive personal attacks to distract from the issues that matter. The behavior of his staff is completely inappropriate, but the tone of the campaign is set by the candidate,” said Democratic party spokesman Matt House.

When the so-called grownups running the campaign don’t know how to behave and do things that are clearly beyond the pale, how are we to expect the general public to behave any better? Would it be too much to ask for a little bit of class be introduced into ALL of these campaigns?

Why is Brown “acting” surprised??? He has based his entire campaign on this.

He perpetuated this behavior of his staff and supporters by bringing up this issue of skin color in the debate. “As you can see…” he said. He said it right there, he made it a skin color issue.

You know what the worst part about all of this is? Scott Brown is a l in the Army National Guard. They’re suppose to be held to a hire caliber in the Army and the military in general. He works in a JAG setting. He should know of all people you cannot judge someone by their skin color or by their last name or by anything, because as the Army will easily show you, cultures from all over a mixed.

As a veteran of the Army and Mass National Guard myself, I will say this behavior or warranting behavior from an officer, nevermind a fellow guardsman, or fellow Army GI, it is very disturbing and does not reflect the Army values.

This is exactly the type of bull the Koch brothers use to rile up tea party lemmings. Koch is exactly how he got elected. Koch, Norquist, and Rove all have a hand in this.

This behavior is embarrassing. It’s like he’s trying to win the ignorant jock vote.

I find Brown’s assumptions about Warren’s heritage offensive. I guess along with his power to conduct secret meetings with kings and queens, he also possesses the power to assess someone’s DNA by sight. His assertions that she was only hired because of her ancestry and not because she was qualified is insulting and misogynistic. Brown’s voting record and the amount of money he’s gained from large corporations has convinced me that he does not represent the best interests of women, healthcare, jobs, or the Commonwealth of Massachusetts His “Mr. Everyman” act is creepy, especially when he thinks that the people of MA are silly and uninformed enough to fall for this crap. And the behavior of his staff is just illustrating the classless nature of his campaign.
I don’t care if Elizabeth Warren is from Mars. I have fact-checked her involvement with the Travelers Case and her actions helped to insure trusts stay intact so that victims of these types of cases are compensated. Her record of holding big business accountable for dirty dealings, not backing down to hostile congressional committees, and looking out for fair treatment of consumers and families has earned my vote and the vote of many others I know.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Brown.

The behavior of Brown’s campaign staff and his statements regarding skin color are just stunning. He will talk to his staff members??? His staff members no doubt felt they had freedom to do this based on Brown’s remarks about Warren’s skin color. He should lose just based on the ugliness of his campaign. What has gotten into the Republican Party? This doesn’t even resemble Reagan’s Republican Party. I’ve been an Independent my entire voting life and have voted for people from both parties, but I have to confess, the GOP is doing a bang up job of changing my mind.

“I find Brown’s assumptions about Warren’s heritage offensive. “——–Actually what is offensive is warren using her pretend heritage to get an affirmative action job. She is a complete hypocritical pig. As far as her house flipping past to make a quick buck off some poor people who were foreclosed upon, her shafting workers for their health benefets, I suppose if one is a democrat hypocrite I guess that is par for the course!,

Say what you want and say it till the cows come home, but there is no denying that this Warren woman is a fraud.

“Actually what is offensive is warren using her pretend heritage to get an affirmative action job.” This comment, along with the other one about Warrent “taking a job away from an affirmative action job away from a LEGITIMATE Native American reeks of racism. First of all, NO ONE can say what’s in a person’s DNA, but them. NO ONE “takes an affirmative action job” away from someone else. Minorities were being discriminated against and that’s why they were not being given opportunities. Minorities that received jobs because of Affirmative Action ARE and WERE qualified and to suggest that they arent and weren’t is where the inherent racism lies. Elizabeth Warren could have walked through ANY door she wanted and received ANY job for which she was qualified. She looks Caucasian. What’s there to stop her? She had NO reason to offer up whatever percent of her is Native American, other than PRIDE. Stop sounding like a bunch of sick racist idjits and THINK!

I believe Americans are seeing the T-baggers for what they really are and they will be voted out, just as easily as they were voted in!

Catherine – “warren’s skin color” – and what color is she?

Posted by: jamescbuilder | September 25, 2012, 3:55 pm 3:55 pm

Yea, it is brown’s fault. Chief Liz Warren never brought up the claim that she was an Injun. She did not want you to know that she lives in a wickey up and often does a rain dance when things get slow at Harvard. In fact, I talked to her yesterday and she told me that brown ‘spoke with forked tongue’.

OMG! What a moron. Everyday I tell my husband that the GOP can’t stoop any further, and then they do! OMG! I am an ex-republican, I have been voting since I was 18 and I am now in my mid fifties a female and I am disgusted with the GOP. I can’t see ever voting for a republican in my lifetime again. BTW all my kids are democrats as well as my husband (another ex-republican)
The tea party is going to be the end of the GOP mark my words.

Gee Brown, how come we found out about your centerfold fiasco AFTER
you abruptly stole the election? What else are YOU hiding?

Posted by: michael | September 25, 2012, 4:37 pm 4:37 pm

the real issue in the warren case is not her racial makeup (she’s as white as the driven snow), but the fact that she lied about it for what is either pc chic or personal gain. do we really want dishonest demogogic ideologues writing our laws and implementing public policy? warren represents the worse of the mindless characterizers that have led us to this point of racial division and hatred, and harvard the primordial institutional basis for such lies and propaganda. as a pair, they share an incestuous miscegenation.

warren’s lack of a commanding lead at this time in the most liberal state in the union is terminal. as economic reality creeps into the american psyche and romney pulls ahead, lizzy, the cigar store indian, will go down like geronimo at skelton canyon. whoop de do

Brown can expect to alienate Native Americans with that, and lose their votes.

If he knows nothing about Native Peoples, then he should learn something about them. If he has nothing else attack Warren over, then he should simply toot his own horn.

Warren is bad for America, and Brown has done a pretty good job i the Senate…….but insulting Native people, is the wrong way to win an election.

when you rely on affirmative action to get you somewhere… didnt build it comes out of your mouth….because she didnt build anything on her own.

“Brown can expect to alienate Native Americans with that, and lose their votes.”———-Nah. Warren pretending to be an indian and getting jobs as a result. Refusing to meet with indian representatives! Boy someone needs to smarten up!

So what would Scott Brown say if Elizabeth Warren didn’t “check the box” as he likes to say, and then he found out that she had the Native-American heritage in her blood. Then he would accuse her of being ashamed of her heritage. Either way he would use this issue because he knows that we know that he is beholden to the banks.

The last place an ignorant tea bagger should be representing is Massachusetts. Voters, time to get him out of there he is making you look dumb by representing you.

Warren is a complete sleaze. she fakes her heritage to get a better job. Flips house of poor foreclosed folks. And defends big corporations who want to deny miners of health benefits. Then claims shes for the people. Typical hypocritical democrat.

Scott Brown = NO CLASS
Scott Brown staff…even less
Ms. Warren should notify Brown’s campaign, he either fires 4 staffers for this racist crud, or he has forfeited the last 3 debates.
Elizabeth, DON’T dignify this attack by being on the SAME stage with this garbage.

This has nothing to do with her DNA.

This has EVERYTHING to do with those people thinking its even REMOTELY ok to degrade an entire culture.

What if Warren were black? Would they pretend they were bushmen and do a mock tribal dance? What is she were Asian? God only knows what they’d come up with for that one. And if she were Latino would they run around in giant sombreros? And would any of THAT be ok? Yet here we are on the comments section, reading people write she got what she deserved. So note to any person of color or mixed race running on the GOP or Democrat ticket- your race and skin tone apparently defines who you are and white people are very entitled to make fun of you.

I am mixed Native. Proud of it. My skin is light. My eyes are dark. None of my features define who I am as a person. There are 500+ tribes in North America, none of whom appreciated the badly imitated actions that would only show up on a poorly directed Western movie. Educate yourself, Brown staffers.

And to the person asking for folks to prove they were Irish American, etc. etc. if no one else got that joke I sure did ;)

I ride through Sherborn and Dover(Scott Brown strongholds) regularly and have noticed that some Scott Brown yard signs have come down. It may be that the Senator has turned off some folks with his hatchet dancing.
