Rachel enjoyed the title of first born, first grandchild on her mother's side. Her middle name was in honor and memory of her great grandfather, Harry Goldstein. She loved to dance and had a natural sense of rhythm. She started ballet lessons at age 4, adding tap at 5. She continued to dance until about 12 years old. When her little sister Sarah was born, Rachel was 3 years old. [Click for essay Rachel wrote about her sister Sarah] They took very good care of each other, sometimes reversing the roles! They were best buddies until Rachel began those early teen years when it wasn't so cool to enjoy your younger sibling. Rachel had a bit of a stubborn streak and at times could be incredibly relentless. She was not a morning person, those that knew her well just kept their distance! However as the day wore on she would definitely brighten up. She loved to entertain, and had a great sense of humor. She loved to dress up as a little girl, and as she grew up became the infamous "fashion police" with her sister. Her room was always a mess because she would change her clothes several times before she left for school. Rachel's artistic talent just evolved, she was always drawing or illustrating stories. In high school she did some amazing work. Even her "doodlings" were impressive. She preferred pencil to paint. But always downplayed her talent, it was just something she enjoyed.

Rachel met Emily in preschool. She met Katie in grade school when the Almeters moved to Norwich. Rachel, Emily and Katie became extremely close freshman year of high school. They had respect and love for one another and enjoyed each other's company so much. They were so supportive of each others efforts always. All three families gained two more daughters! It was so much fun to watch those three, they always made us laugh. . They were on the high school Mock Trial team and took it to the state finals, that was a first for the Norwich Senior High. They were awesome! In high school Rachel's focus was socializing. Academics was not at the top of her list, she did what was required to get through, and was able to attend her first choice college. Although that was due more to her determination and letting the school know who she was as an individual. Her art portfolio didn't hurt either. She had no desire to pursue a career in art, drawing was her relaxation and enjoyment. After her experience with Mock Trial, she thought she would continue at the college level and possibly look at law as her future. True to form, Rachel's main objective those first few months at college was to have a good time and make the dean's list. There was a wonderful future on the horizon...........................
